What Is Love?

Posted by Mimi on July 7, 2011 at 3:52 PM Comments comments (0)

Love is a term so easily used these days, but sadly, it is most often mis-used and abused. When we look in the Word of God for the definition of love, we find characteristics often forgotten in today’s society, where careless love is common, and true spiritual love is lost.

1 Corinthians 13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient

Love is kind.

It does not envy

It does not boast

It is not proud

5 It does not dishonor others

It is not self-seeking

It is not easily angered

It keeps no record of wrongs.

6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7 It always protects

Always trusts

Always hopes

Always perseveres.

8 Love never fails.

These are the characteristics of true love, agape love… God’s love. This is the way God loves us, and it is why He sent Jesus to die for our sins, and to save us from death. This is the kind of love Jesus calls us to give to EVERYONE in our lives. Yes, everyone includes your noisy neighbors, the curt bank teller, the person that just cut you off on the freeway without signaling, and even the bum at the onramp!

John 15:9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.

Jesus is very clear in his command that we love one another, as He loves us. When Jesus died on the cross, the new covenant of grace was ushered in ~ we who have accepted Christ as our LORD and Savior are no longer bound to the law of the land! We have been given a new law, and that is to GIVE LOVE! Unconditionally. Now, this is quite impossible on our own, but when we ask for God’s help – for an increase in love – we are sure to receive it.  As a bonus, "our joy [will] be complete" when we are living and loving as Christ intended, Jesus will take joy in US, we will be called Jesus friend, and our prayers will be answered (vs. 11, 14, 16)!  HALLELUJAH!

God is happy to give that which He wants to give, and He wants us all to have as much love for one another as He has for each and every person, ever. This leaves NO room for: impatience, unkindness, envy, pride, dishonor, selfishness, doubt, short-temper, grudges, evil, harm, and even quitting. Think of these things the next time you tell someone you love them, for if you state that you have love and you are harboring these feelings, you do not have true love.

Galatians 5:13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Sometimes, it is just plain hard to give love, because we have not / are not truly being loved. Or perhaps we have had a distorted perception of love, and of what our earthly assignment is. No matter where we are at in our “love levels”, God is ever-ready to give us more. Seek Him in prayer, in the Word, and in praise, and thank Him for supernaturally increasing your ability to love as Jesus did, and for God’s honor. God has asked us to do this, and is sure to grant your request!

You may not see immediate results, but have faith that changes will come as God softens your heart and molds it into the likeness of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Practice loving your family and friends in patience and kindness, practice humility, forgiveness, and perseverance. Jesus is right here with you, ready to help you at every moment. We have to learn to give love, before we can receive it. Just as Jesus first loved us by His life on earth in the flesh, now we are called to give love because He loved us. So pour out some love today, and be amazed as God supernaturally increases your ability to give true love, In Him!

How To Be A Blessing

Matthew 25:40 The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

What a simple truth!  In order to be a blessing - a blessing to another person, to yourself, and most of all to God - all you must do is SOMETHING for another person.  The verse does not say how large or small the deed must be ~ only that it must be done.  "WHATEVER you did..."  When we remove ourselves from the equation, and all we are left with is the world around us, it is easy to see how much need there is.  However, we are often too wrapped up in our own agenda to fully acknowledge and appreciate people in our lives whose job is to serve us, like the grocery store clerk, the gas attendant, or the customer service representative at your utility company.

Take the time, starting today, to be a blessing to others.  You don't have to give a lot of money or time ~ in fact, you can give none at all!  Just as long as you take the time to place someone else before yourself, for this is the heart of the message: humble yourself in love, for you are loved.  Be kind, give a smile, hold the door, wave the next car in... there are countless opportunities to be a blessing in a day ~ all free!  When you do this small thing you have been a blessing to another human being.  However, it will not be considered a small thing when Jesus Christ accepts your blessing!  So give fully, in joy and love, and without expecting anything in return.  This is how Christ gives, and He came to be an example to us all.

Be a blessing.

You never see anything that is truly "FREE" these days.  Coupons are buy one get one free, free item with purchase, free upgrade, free shipping on $ or more purchases... but in the end, you still end up spending something, in order to get something for free.  Even if you do get a free coupon for a small in-store item, you are still likely to spend money when you go in to redeem it - that is, IF you even go get that free small soda, or small fry, etc.

However, there IS something, a spectacular gift that is better than anything you could ever imagine, and it is YOURS for the taking!  That's right folks: JESUS IS FREE TO YOU AND ME!  He did come at a price, a very high price to Himself and to God the Father, for Jesus was the perfect sacrifice sent to die for mankind.  But God loved us SO much, Jesus loves us SO much, that HE came to die in our place ~ to pay the price of sin and death once and for all!

Satan only has power over that which is his.  If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior, then Satan has his way with you.  However, once you have accepted Jesus into your heart, and asked Him to forgive you and lead you in HIS path, know without a doubt that Jesus is right there with you through every trial.  Every struggle is not to bring you down, but to build you up!

Once you are clothed in Christ, Satan's attacks become futile.  Any hurt, trial, struggle, hurdle he tries to trip you up with, will only become stepping stones for you to build your faith, and to glorify God.  When you walk with God, HE will be your strength, your peace, and your joy.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I can't get over it, and I am no loger ashamed.  God has saved me by His mercy time and time again, and my family.  So many times I have made poor decisions, or had troubles that could have cost the life of me or my family member, but God kept us all.  I am so thankful, and frankly, happy to be transparent for God.  A little of me says "What will they think, or say to you next time they see you?".  But that is just the fleshly side of me.  My spirit says, "They will only have love for you".  So here it is.

When I was 16 I used to go camping a lot, up around Estacada.  My friends and I would caravan, and race up and down the mountain, and gravel roads.  One time, I was driving about 55-60, and realized we almost overshot our turn.  Me being a silly 16-year-old with few years of driving under my belt, slammed the breaks and hit the corner in the gravel.  The car skidded until it landed head on into a tree.

I restarted the car, backed it up, and went on to our campsite.  MERCY.

I also had unprotected sex in my teenage years, as many of us unfortunately do.  However, I never caught a disease that will affect my future.  MERCY.

When my son was born, his platelet count was so low, he could have gotten a brain hemmorage coming through the birth canal for "my" natural birth.  But he was just fine, and they caught the problem and gave him platelet transfusions before we left the hospital, so he was and is fine.  MERCY.

Millena was baby number 2, and had a higher risk because of the history with Adrian, so I had to have weekly IVIG injections to keep my blood platelets from attacking hers.  I didn't see it as a big deal then, but I see it as a big deal now.  The doctors wanted a cord blood sample around 8 months, to see if she had enough platelets so that I could have "my" natural birth, again.  They couldn't get her cord blood.  I had to have a cesarian.  She needed a transfusion, too.  Yet she is here, and fine.  MERCY.

When I got divorced I plunged into many a drug (including nicotine and alcohol), and spent too many nights faded out of my mind, out of the house.  Sometimes I don't remember getting home.  Sometimes, not even leaving the spot.  I drove often, cause Boo was just as bad.  MERCY.

When Boo came home from that show, Jan 2007 in that real bad ice storm.  He hit a concrete barriar and totaled the minivan.  It wouldn't even drive, nor the sliding door close.  He walked away.  MERCY.

When my back got so bad, 14 months ago that I could no longer function.  Not work, not sit, not even drive.  Everything caused tears for literally a month.  My family did not know who I was.  I did not know who I was.  I couldn't think about anything, but pain, and that my life was over.  Because life in pain is not life at all.

I was led to the practitioner who would begin the physical healing.  I was led to information on health changes, and shown by trying a new lifestyle, in faith that I would get better. Today, I am excited about my future, about exercise, about nutrition, and most of all, about enjoying my health and time as my family grows.  MERCY.

God is the giver of all things.  Think about your life, about when YOU were in a bad place, but someone helped you out.  That someone was God, and He is calling to you!  Praise Him for the times He has saved you by His mercy and grace!  SHOUT IT OUT TO THE WORLD, that ALMIGHTY GOD IS MERCIFUL AND FAITHFUL!  JESUS SAVES!

It Is Because...

Ephesians 2:8 Our love for God cannot save us, but His love for us can.  It is because of His love that we are given His grace to enter the kingdom of heaven.

There is nothing we can do, by ourselves, to get to Heaven.  The only way to Heaven is through faith in Jesus Christ, who died in our place, in your place, that we might all have eternal life.  John 3:16 tells us “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son...” ~ because of God's love for us, Jesus was sent to bear our sins.  Jesus was sent, He who had no sin was sent, so that we would be freed from the slavery of sin.

Jesus was sent to die in your place, so that you would choose to live for Him! God has known all of His children since the beginning of time. Nothing we can do will ever change the amount of love God has for us.  As if His love is not enough, God gives us His grace to move us towards His own will.  His grace brings us towards a closer relationship with Him, and towards fulfilling the plan He has for us. Run into His arms today!  He is waiting for you!

What Now?

Posted by Mimi on February 18, 2011 at 1:48 PM Comments comments (0)

Jesus had to come to earth, so that the law could be fulfilled.  Yes, God could have left us to the laws (10 Commandments) and the sacrifices (cleansing) that were done in the Old Testament.  However, God wants so much more for us!  He wants us to be free from the chains and slavery of SIN, and THAT is why Jesus came: TO FREE US FROM SIN!

Now because of this New Covenant, if we only believe in Jesus, and ask Him to forgive and cleanse us of our sins, we become like a new creature.  We are born into the Kingdom of Heaven, brothers and sisters with Christ.  This is how God sees us too: as His sons and daughters IN CHRIST!

Are we getting the picture yet?

1) Believing in Christ, believing that He is all we will ever need, IS the way to Heaven.(John 6:27-29)

2) Loving one another is what Jesus said to be the most important commandment.  Note, Jesus doesn't say he wants us to follow each of the 10 commandments to a T... that's not his top priority.  Instead, Jesus asks us to love one another, as He loved us (more than ourselves, to death)!  This is how the world will know we are Jesus disciples, because of OUR love for others!  (John 13:34-35; John 15:12-17

In a way, I’m glad God created me to be addicted to sin more than to the law.  If I were addicted to the law, addicted to following it, I would have no need for God!  This is a big problem I’ve had with church for so long: too many addicts of the law, and not enough “sinners”.  If everyone is right, and no one is willing to admit they are wrong, then how can Jesus save?  We all sin, and since I’ve admitted my problem with sin, I was able to acknowledge my need for God. I've also been blessed to visit some very worshipful, God-loving and God-fearing churches recently, and am glad football season is over... a horrible excuse to not start going to church, so I'm glad at least I don't have it anymore :)

Now that I know I’ve been forgiven, I can be on to doing God’s work: believing on Jesus, and loving others. I need Jesus!  He keeps me, and as long as I stay focused on Him, everything else is secondary.  As long as I stay focused on Him, temptations are less and less.  As long as I stay focused on Him, God continues to show me how I have grown, and how I need to grow, every day!

Oh, the blessings of being a child of God!  LORD, thank you for everything you have done, and everything you are able to do, I will declare your glory for the rest of my days!  I WILL FOLLOW YOU, LORD!

1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  57 But thanks be to God!  He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

God's grace is unfathomable.  God sent Jesus to give victory to all who accept Him ~ no conditions!  Just place your faith in Him, and ask Him to live in your heart!  Nothing will diminish the timeless love God has for you.  God's love is eternal, and it is for all people. He just asks us to love in return.

Jesus taught that the greatest commandment is to love your neighbor.  Love the neighbors in your house, down the block, at the store, at the game, on the road, on the job, in the classroom, at the concert, on the street, on vacation, at the conference, in the church... Love others.

Jesus came to show His love for the world, by dying on the cross.  He won the victory over death when He rose from the grave!  Stand firm in the One who gives you victory over sin and death! He wants to take you higher. God is all that you will ever need...doesn't He deserve all of you?

Chosen For Love

John 15:16 You didn’t choose me. I chose you.   I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. 17  This is my command: Love each other.

How incredible is it to know that you were chosen for greatness?  You were chosen by the Maker of the Stars, to go into the world and produce “lasting fruit”.. spiritual fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  However, Jesus only gives us this directive: Love one another.  Why, then, is this such a difficult task?  The answer is sin. Sin is selfish, prideful, inconsiderate, and every other feeling that keeps us from our mission: The Great Commission.

Seek to live each day for your Savior, humbling yourself before others, and giving love.  Stand up and get moving, for you have a divine appointment ~ with Jesus!   Don't allow sin to get in the way of God's plan for you.   Instead, seek Him passionately, and ask Him to show His love through you.   Rest assured, He is faithful to His faithful.  If you earnestly seek these things in you heart, God will hear you, and grant your request!

He came to love...

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Take heart, dear one.  Jesus came to bear your burdens, if only you will let Him!  This world is so unforgiving, so ready to place blame and insult.   But Jesus is not here to judge or hurt you. He is here to love you, and to bring you into a place of rest: in Him.

Such a sweet name, My Jesus, Lover of my soul, Healer, Peace Giver. Call on Him today.   Let Him love you.  Let Him give you rest.

Love gives (Proverbs 14:31)

Proverbs 14:31 Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.

Often when we think of the poor, we think of those who have little money; those who are hungry, homeless, helpless. The dictionary defines poor as: lacking material possessions; of, relating to, or characterized by poverty; less than adequate; small in worth; inferior in quality or value.

Has God created any living thing that is poor in His sight?  How often do we remember those who are poor in spirit? Who are poor in Love? Jesus came to earth to show the greatest love of all eternity ~ a love that gives life. Those who are lacking love, who have not had their fill of the Maker's fine wine, are indeed poor!  Brothers and Sisters, it is our duty as Christians to share our Father's love. We are called to give so much more than mere money!  We are called to give LOVE to one another, so that the WORLD will know we are God's Children!  So the WORLD will know the name of Our Savior, Jesus Christ!

Love has many forms. Love is patient when you don't want to be.  Love gives a smile, an encouraging word, even a compliment, when the giver doesn't feel like it.  Love does not judge.  Love accepts and forgives.  Love is unconditional.

Make a deposit of love into someone's life today.   Give love in honor of The One who loves you!

Jesus loves me, this I know...

At this point in my life there are few things that I will just accept at face value.  One thing that I will always accept is Jesus love for me, my Father's love for me.

I hate going to the doctor.  Every time I have to go to the doctor, it ends up being a big deal.  Having kids didn't help, cause I learned that every time I have a kid it's going to be a big deal.  So now I have another deal.  I went to the doctor, just to get something checked out, and she said "Hey, looks like no problem!  We say no news is good news, but you should have results within two weeks."  I got a letter.  It was not good news.

At this point, there are a lot of things that it "could" be... but it doesn't matter.  Satan, you lose!  I am not afraid.  I have a heavenly Father taking care of me, and He is not going to let anything happen to me that would delay HIS plans for me.  I cannot afford to be sick.  I am on a mission.  If I am to be sick, it is God's will, and I will happily continue on my mission no matter if I am bed-ridden and until the day I die!  But I need to be with people.  I need to give love.

Everything is going to be fine.  God is in control.  I barely finished giving Him my sorrows when my daughter came into the room with a secret for me.  She usually tells me she loves me (no secret anymore!).  This time the message was a little different.

I love you in the Heaven of God, she says.

Even just reading it makes me kind of "chill-y".  I believe that God sends messages through people, songs, a Bible verse or devotional, etc. because sometimes we just need to hear (or read) what He has to say.  Satan uses circumstances in our lives and our emotions to make us doubt in God's awesome power.  But I believe in God's power over satan's lies.  I confessed God's power, over satan and over my life.  And as soon as I did, I got a confirmation of His love for me.

How else do you explain it?  You don't.  God is awesome.  God is love, and He loves me.  He sent Jesus to bear my illnesses.  By His stripes I am healed.  I will proclaim the name of the LORD Jesus Christ until the day that I die!  He alone is worthy of my praise!  HALLELUJAH!

He loves you, too.  Give in to God.  Let Him carry you.

Someone needs love.  I love you.  God loves you.  God has given us each a supernatural ability to have LOVE for each and every human being on this earth!

All you need to do is accept His love for YOU, and ask that He show you how to love.  God will show you in His time, for HE ALONE is Faithful!

Love.  God is LOVE.  JESUS IS LOVE.  Jesus died for LOVE.  Jesus loves YOU! <3

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Accept God's love today.  Accept Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior.  Ask Him into your heart and ask Him to be with you, to guide you, and to keep you.  Repent for your sins, and ask His forgiveness.

NOW ACCEPT HIS FORGIVENESS.  And decide to seek HIS will above your own from this moment on.

LORD Jesus, please keep us, Your children, safe during this stressful and emotional time.  So much to do, so little time.  Please keep our eyes fixed on You, LORD.  Keep us from distractions that would keep us from doing that which will bring You Glory.  Bless the time we have to spend with our families, both earthly and the family of Christ.  Help us to accomplish all that You would have us do, keep us safe in our travels, and give us all a God-sized store of LOVE to share, for it is because of the love YOU sent that we celebrate Christmas!

You are loved.

Jesus Prays.. John 17

John 17

Jesus Prays to Be Glorified

1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.  2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.  3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.  4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.  5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

6 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.  7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.  8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them.  They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.  9 I pray for them.  I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.  10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.  11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you.  Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

12 "While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.  13 I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.  14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.  15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.  16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.  17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.  19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 “My prayer is not for them alone.  I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.  24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.  26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
